Description
This sculpture you are looking at is made from a oak burl that is local to Essex and sadly blown down in a storm as I don’t like to work with mast produced timber that has to travel half way around the world, so to those people that do not know what a burl is they are a rare piece as not all trees have the, the burl starts it life on a tree when a tree suffers some sort of damage like a brunch being cut off or I piece of Metal fixed to the tree so they grow around the damage to protect the tree and they grow bigger as the tree grows, this sculpture was made on a traditional wood lathe and with all traditional hand tool this piece is all made by hand, there is a big bark inclusion in the piece that Unlike a traditional sculpture, but with the bark inclusion allowance to see in to the Sculpture and you can see the Beautiful figure on the bottom of it so you get to see all of the beautiful figure as nature has dun an amazing job creating this beautiful wood I would like to think all I have dun is show a good of peeling back the wood to show its amazing figure that nature has made, i will apologise for having to see a picture of me holding it but I want pec to show a way of how big the piece is, the sculpture is 18 inches round and 11 inches deep
