Awards and bursaries

The Cockpit Worshipful Company of Glass Sellers Bursary offers a bursary for a craftsperson working in warm or cold glass.

• Subsidised shared studio space for one year within the creative community at Cockpit, with an anticipated start date between January – March 2027
• Business support and professional development including one-to-one coaching and workshops
• Selling and promotional opportunities, including two annual Cockpit Open Studios events

Financial contribution required by maker: £2000 per year (approx. £167/month)

• Makers who have warm or cold glass as a major constituent of their work.
• Makers who fully research and address the health and safety requirements of their practice and are prepared to invest as required to keep the shared studio space a safe environment for themselves and other occupants. This could include adding ventilation equipment and flooring. 
• Makers who can demonstrate dedication to developing and nurturing their craft to a level of excellence and an interest in passing on their craft.

Today, long-established Livery Companies such as the Worshipful Company of Glass Sellers exist in very different circumstances from those when they were formed. However, although their work has changed, they still assist in the promotion of glass as a material and are proud of our continuing contacts with the glass industry. The Company promotes knowledge of the properties of glass in schools and helps with education projects in the City of London and around the country. They also support smaller businesses and artists working in glass through exhibitions, competitions and prizes.
