Tamsin van Essen's work acquired by the Foundling Museum

Originally commissioned for the 2023 exhibition Finding Family, the Foundling Museum has acquired Tamsin van Essen‘s ceramic sculpture ‘Entangled Roots’ for their permanent collection.

‘Entangled Roots’ interweaves the formal structure of a genetic family tree with extended blood lines and social threads to form a complex and entangled network of biological and coincidental human interactions. The porcelain discs resemble the ‘tokens’ in the Museum’s collection – small objects left as a means of identification when children were brought to the Foundling Hospital.

Cockpit Makers shortlisted for the Young Masters Art Prize

Two Cockpit Makers have been included on this year’s shortlist for the Young Masters Art Prize.

Goldsmith Ruby Taglight has been recognised for her jewellery box ‘The Kingfishers‘, which was inspired by the tale of Alcyone and Ceyx. Ruby dissects and retells the myth within hidden compartments, with various drawers and openings bringing the story to life.

Glass artist Helen Brough has also been recognised for her piece ‘Spectroscopic Continuum #16‘, a stunning work created using painted and fired glass, set in glass with an LED light panel.
