Ho Lai presents an exciting new body of work

During a three-month residency at the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park in Japan in winter 2024, ceramic artist Ho Lai focused on experimenting with locally sourced glaze material and creating forms by referencing glass casting technique. Her new series of work is both a manifestation of materiality but also personal sentiments when living and working in Shigaraki.

The ‘Metanoia’ series (right) was made using locally sourced glaze materials from Shigaraki, with rubbles of stones fused using the glass casting technique. ‘Inferno’ (left) was made purely from glaze material, utilising the carbon trapping technique and firing with organic matter.
