Each quarter, we introduce you to the makers and awardees who have taken up studios spaces over the last few months in our NEW FACES Journal series. 7 new makers have joined the Cockpit community since this summer – here are the NEW FACES you need to know about as you plan your visit to Winter Open Studios.

Carolina Estrada

Carolina Estrada joined Cockpit on the 2025 Clothworkers’ Award. Carolina is a Peruvian textile artist and researcher who investigates culture through hands-on material practices. She works with textiles as sensory interfaces that connect culture, technology, and nature. Carolina views traditional techniques as a form of technology that encourages careful, responsible use of materials and sustainable production rather than the overexploitation of natural resources.

Christine Leech

Christine Leech joined Cockpit on the 2025 Broderer’s Award. Christine is a designer, maker, and educator specialising in embroidery and textile art. Her work combines traditional Central European embroidery techniques with American mid-century graphic design. Through her brand Sewyeah, she creates sustainable kits, digital patterns, and workshops for crafters of all levels, and runs the Sewyeah Social Club, a subscription service offering monthly projects and online tutorials.

Morag Seaton

Morag Seaton joined Cockpit on the 2025 ALMAW Award. Morag is a Scottish designer and maker whose work explores everyday clothing rituals through carefully crafted garments, bags, and pocket artefacts. Drawing on conversations about how people experience and imagine dress, her projects examine the social and environmental meanings of what we wear, using circular or zero-waste methods and locally sourced or repurposed materials.

Nowshin Prenon

Nowshin Prenon joined Cockpit on the 2025 Clothworkers’ Award. She is a textile artist specialising in woven design, whose process combines digital exploration with expressive winding techniques. Nowshin is interested in the relationship between colour and form, using it to create layered textiles. By experimenting with line and colour in different arrangements of thread, she constructs intricate and visually engaging artworks.

Olive Kelly

Olive Kelly joined Cockpit on the 2025 Clothworkers’ Award. Olive is a textile designer and artist who graduated from Central Saint Martins with a degree in Textile Design in 2024. Her work is influenced by a passion for historical craftmanship and folk art, with the aim to produce multi-disciplinary artworks that have a modern sensibility and practicality.

Shannon Swinburn

Shannon Swinburn joined Cockpit on the 2025 Weavers’ Award. Shannon is a textile artist whose practice uncovers the invisible labour of women in the evolution of modern computing. Through material storytelling and speculative histories, her work highlights the overlooked intersections of weaving, technology, labour, gender, and power — reinterpreting untold narratives through archival research and material exploration.

Sonia Cheadle

Sonia Cheadle is a jeweller known for her fresh, innovative approach and subtle, inspired creations that have consistently captured the attention of discerning collectors. Contemporary yet classic, her work combines diamonds with traditional materials and modern techniques to create timeless pieces designed to be worn and celebrated every day.
