Shannon Swinburn is a Textile Artist, whose practice explores and reveals the invisible labour of women in the progression of modern-day computing.
Through speculation, counterfactual histories and material storytelling, Shannon’s artwork seeks to highlight the historically overlooked contributions of women in emergent technology. The connections between weaving, computation, labour, gender and power are key themes that run throughout Shannon’s work – often utilising archival research and material investigation as a method to produce artworks that reinterpret, reveal and platform such untold stories.
Shannon graduated from the Royal College of Art, MA Textiles (2024), and Central Saint Martins, BA Graphic Design (2016) and has since completed The Blackhorse Workshop Studio Residency (2024) and The Sarabande Foundation Studio Residency (2024/2025) where she recently exhibited work in shows ’Sincerely’ and ‘Pinpoint’.
