Every month, we bring you an update about what’s new and exciting at Cockpit. From stunning products to intriguing projects to inspiring brand partnerships, here are the latest developments from our makers.
Kim Sutherland’s modern Alchemy
Kim Sutherland blends metalwork with material research to create inscribed wall-based meditations in metal. Her pieces are primarily inspired by historical ornamentation and sacred artefacts, fusing traditional aesthetics with contemporary exploration.
Her new work, the Alchemy light, reflects her in-depth research into alchemical treatises and manuscripts at the British Library, focusing on ancient illustrations depicting various stages of the transformative alchemical process. Each etching symbolizes elements of the inner journey toward achieving spiritual gold.
Chalk x Barbican: Jewellery inspired by architecture
Inspired by the iconic shapes of the renowned Barbican Architectural Complex, Malaika Carr Johnson has created a stunning new capsule collection. The Chalk x Barbican Collection combines the jewellery brand’s iconic shades of gold, blue and contrasting touches of walnut with designs that celebrate the Barbican’s angular details and flowing forms – bringing iconic architectural elements to life in highly wearable pieces.
Festive treats from Lucy Welton Cambridge
Lucy Welton uses traditional hand tooling techniques to create her leather handbags and accessories, all of which are crafted by hand from environmentally responsible vegetable-tanned leather. Her latest pieces – the Luna Bucket Bag and Margot Tote Bag – feature iconic vegetable-tanned leather paired with linen fabric drawstring closures, making them both aesthetic and functional and perfect as festive gifts for a loved one (or as a treat to yourself).

Victorian memories woven by Eva Dennis
Eva Dennis specializes in hands-on weaving workshops and site-specific weaving, crafting unique woven artworks tailored for both homes and public spaces. Recently, she was commissioned to create a window hanging for an architect in Waltham Forest, inspired by the Warner Estate’s distinctive Victorian architecture.
Drawing inspiration from the estate’s red brick and brightly painted doors, Eva used turquoise sari silk and orange twisted cord sourced from an antique market to create the piece. The neutral cotton-linen blend of the work allows natural light to filter through, enhancing its visual appeal.

Party ready jewels from Lucy Martin
Lucy Martin’s sleek contemporary jewellery is all about the detail, combining sophistication with graphic forms and carefully selected, luscious coloured gemstones. Her Knot Studs, Droplet Hoops and Arc Cluster Pendant are perennial favourites that are perfect for wearing together or separately for a festive occasion. For those looking for something expressive but not glitzy, the new Oxidized Silver & Blue Topaz Linear Drops would make a tasteful addition to your New Year’s Eve look.

Her work reflects her fascination with the relationships between humans and plants, with each basket serving as a love letter to Mother Nature. Her new collection of beautiful yet functional basket bags is now available from Turn Shop in Dalston.

Learn the stories behind Head, Heart, Hand
Earlier this year, we unveiled a new public art installation in Cockpit Deptford conceptualised and designed by artist-maker Amber Khokhar. Enveloping the façade of the Cockpit Craft Garden, Head, Heart, Hand is a vibrant celebration of the local community, with over 1,000 ceramic tiles telling the story of Deptford.
To celebrate six months of Head, Heart, Hand, Cockpit has launched a new website where you can learn more about Amber’s inspiration and process and discover deeper insights into the artwork and the vibrant community that inspired it.
