We are very sorry to share the sad news that Cockpit supporter and former Chair Sydney Levinson passed away on Tuesday 3rd May after a long illness.
Sydney was a generous, committed supporter of craft who gave much to Cockpit as a Trustee from 1993, and Chair from 2004 – 2011. He played an instrumental role in building Cockpit to the powerhouse of creative talent that it now is. Sydney remained always loyal to Cockpit and, with his wife Anne, was a generous donor and Cockpit Champion.
Our CEO Annie Warburton, says,
“Sydney was a remarkable man. There are very few people who can rock being an accountant, creative business innovator, and Dalston DJ in quite the way Sydney could.
“His energetic passion for craft and for supporting talent was evident from the day I met him one evening in the basement of the House of Commons, at an exhibition celebrating textiles technology. That was long before I joined Cockpit, and I am grateful for his encouragement and support when I took on this job. He will be very much missed.”
All of us at Cockpit remember Sydney with fondness and tremendous gratitude. Our thoughts are with Anne and the family at this sad time.
