Kokia – Fantasy Plants Series

This piece is part Michèle Oberdieck's 'Fantasy Plant Series' based on extinct and endangered plants. The Kokia, the real world plant which inspires this piece comes from Hawaii. Drawing inspiration from the natural world, Oberdieck has produced a new body work of imagined plants and vegetation which are intended to question the effects of climate change on our environment, food security and public perception of science in society. Translating her gestural sketches into fluid sculptural works rich in colour using hand blown glass making techniques, Oberdieck creates her vision of the plants of the future.
