Blinkers is now on permanent display at the Somerset Rural Life Museum. The piece was originally commissioned by Somerset Artworks for the Horse Power exhibition at the Museum, which celebrated how harnessing horse power transformed agriculture. This work was inspired by the blinkers in the South West Heritage collection, worn by horses working on farms.
Drawing from the original artifact, Jacky crafted the piece using the same materials: steel, brass, and leather, created in collaboration with Jessie White from Cockpit Deptford. The blinkers in the collection, featuring a decorative brass oval, inspired Jacky’s etched elements. These intricate designs weave together archival material, including maps of Actis Farm (where the Museum now stands), tasks performed by horses, and trades historically associated with agricultural horses.
