Jacky Oliver

Process

Jacky has a broad and open approach to fluidly developing ideas, drawing from a range of metalwork processes, including jewellery, silversmithing, blacksmithing techniques. Allowing her approach to respond sensitively to the variety of subjects that inspire each bespoke piece. Using etching and enamelling Jacky collages imagery and text to create surfaces that evoking a narrative, allowing the story to unfold for the viewer, letting them discover and interpret their own way into the work. With details pierced through the surface of these elements and the open nature of the linear structures Jacky fabricates, her work can often be viewed through their shadows, which can allow the viewer to see a simpler version of an often-complex structure.

The research is a key part of Jacky’s practice, her work brings together narratives from a range of sources, contemporary and historic, including archive material, interviews and handwritten notes which become important aspects of her final pieces.
