Helena Powell is a textile designer and handweaver specialising in handwoven silk textiles that combine mathematics, chemistry, and design. Inspired by landscapes, cityscapes, and personal stories, her work blends traditional weaving techniques with contemporary colour exploration to create distinctive scarves and woven artworks. Designs feature hand-painted yarns, Fibonacci-inspired stripes, and intricate woven structures, where mathematical principles and the science of colour and dye processes inform the creative approach.
Sustainability is central to her practice, with a focus on repurposing deadstock materials, reducing water and dye waste through small-batch dyeing, and promoting transparency throughout production. Influenced by generations of weaving heritage, each piece is carefully hand-dyed and handwoven, balancing craftsmanship, innovation, and storytelling through contemporary textile design.
