Artist Francisca Prieto is interested in the traces of humanity embedded within the disregarded. Layered formally and conceptually, her work explores and combines collected fragments of history with the architectural principles of space, line and structure.
Fundamentally three dimensional and analytical, Prieto's work is the result of considered methodologies through which the artist reflects, documents, and constructs new layers of meaning. Drawing on timeworn archival material and objects, she intertwines fragments charged with humanity and history with intricate metalwork. Rooted in research, her work reflects an ongoing interest in historical narratives and art theory.
Born in Chile and based in London since 2001, Prieto's work has been exhibited internationally, including a solo exhibition at Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Chile. Her work is held in public collections and institutions, including the British Library, Bodleian Libraries, Tate, and the V&A's National Art Library.
