Awards opening 1 March

We have three sponsored opportunities for talented makers with ambition to join our studios next month – opening for applications on 1 March with a closing deadline of 4 April.

All awards and bursaries at Cockpit include studio space, business support and membership of a vibrant craft community, giving makers the space and time to develop their profile, grow their business or practice, and increase profitability.

 

Clothworkers Award

An award designed to help three graduate weavers each year set up in business. Weavers can be working in any form, for example, making products, creating woven textile art, working with mills and/or making samples for industry. The Clothworkers Award includes one year of business support and subsidised shared studio space at Cockpit Studios Deptford,  equipped with Leclerc, Louet, ARM looms and a dye area. Further financial support is available for up to three years in total, on a sliding scale and by selection.

Leathersellers Award

An award for makers working in leather looking to take their business to the next level. The Leathersellers’ Award offers one year of business support, subsidised studio space at Cockpit Studios Deptford, and use of our well-equipped Leather Hub, generously sponsored by the Leathersellers’ Company. Further financial support is available for up to three years in total, on a sliding scale and by selection.

Turners Award

An award for an aspiring or established turner working on a lathe in wood or other materials. The Turners Award includes one year of business support and subsidised studio space at Cockpit Studios in Deptford, including use of  a lathe and a workbench.
