Hedeoma – Fantasy Plants Series
By Michele Oberdieck
Description
Michèle Oberdieck's 'Fantasy Plants' series draws inspiration from the natural world. The blown glass sculptures of imagined plants and vegetation, are intended to question the effects of climate change on our environment, food security and public perception of science in society.
Speaking to researchers at various plant science centres including the Herbarium at Kew Gardens and the John Innes Foundation, Oberdieck researched extinct and newly discovered plants, which she then interpreted into abstracted forms, blown from hot glass.
Translating her gestural sketches into fluid sculptural works rich in colour using hand blown glass making techniques, Oberdieck creates her vision of the plants of the future.
