Workshop:Revive & Renew with Hannah Refaat
Tuesday 2, Friday 12, 19, and 26 September
10 – 4 pm
Join textile designer Hannah Refaat – a Royal College of Art graduate and award-winning embroidery artist – for a practical workshop where creativity meets sustainability.
In this hands-on session, you will explore the art of mending and reviving textiles using both traditional and contemporary techniques. Whether you’re repairing a well-worn garment or reimagining fabric scraps, this is an opportunity to bring new life to old materials.
Hannah draws on her Middle Eastern heritage to inform a style rich in colour, texture, and storytelling. With experience in high-end fashion and a focus on sustainable practice, she approaches repair as both a craft and a statement.
You will learn a range of hand and machine mending skills, find inventive ways to recycle, and leave with practical methods to extend the life of your clothing. The session also offers a glimpse into Hannah’s personal approach – drawing with stitch and working fabric like a sketchbook.
Materials provided: Basic mending supplies, fabric scraps, thread, needles, access to sewing machines.
Materials to bring: Garments or textiles in need of repair, any personal fabric scraps or embellishments you wish to use.
All skill levels are welcome. You will leave with new skills, fresh ideas, and a renewed connection to the clothes you wear.
