The Resurrection exhibition at Islington Museum presents the work of the three Bunhill Artists in residence Jacky Oliver, Georgia Fay and Jamie Turner.
Much of Jacky’s work takes place in archives and community workshops around the UK, researching for projects that explore specific times, places and communities.
Her process is entirely intuitive, allowing her to fluidly adapt concepts as her understanding of the subject grows, with her artwork evolving up to the final fabrication. Shadows, enamelling and etching overlap in Jacky’s artworks, with half-revealed images and forms inviting second glances, provoking questions and sparking conversation about the materials that inspired her. This residency broadened her archival and community-led practice, and challenged Jacky to work in new ways as she was unable to use metalwork processes in the St Luke’s studio. So gave her more time to explore ideas through drawing, collage and bookmaking.
The exhibition brings together the series of postcards she created, maquettes and work later developed at Cockpit. There are banners showing the designs for the 8 enamel panels that are now permanently on display around Islington, as well as the piece ‘ Bunhill Windows’ which was created especially for the exhibition.
