Event description

Lace and Gauze Weaves Workshop
Date:
Tuesday 15th & Wednesday 16th July
Time: 10 am-4 pm
Tickets: £280 (All materials are included)

Lace and Gauze Weaves is a 2-day workshop taught by Charlotte Grierson at Cockpit Deptford. During this workshop you will explore the various lace weave structures and two different ways of achieving gauze using Leno structures.

This workshop is perfect for weavers with some experience who want to discover the creative possibilities of lace weaves. Each type of lace structure requires a slightly different setup and in this workshop you will learn the possibilities, differences and limitations of each.

Working on pre-warped looms you weave samples of each type of structure and take home your samples at the end of the workshop. The workshop is designed for working on 8 shaft looms.

During this workshop you will:

  • Explore simple and complex lace patterns, identifying and designing repeat patterns.

  • Understand and use lace drafts and profile drafts to create unique designs.

  • Learn bead leno and doup leno techniques, including setup, differences, and limitations.
  • Work on pre-set looms with varied warps and threadings to experiment with lace and gauze structures.

  • Evaluate your woven samples to uncover opportunities for incorporating lace and gauze techniques into your projects.

You will get a detailed handout with hands-on exercises. This workshop provides the tools and inspiration to create everything from open fabrics for artwork to functional pieces like blinds.

Spring Café will be open in the building serving vegetarian food.
