Mandy Brannan

Paper Making

About

Mandy is a London based hand papermaker, book artist and workshop leader.

Hand papermaking is her primary creative practice, having studied under master crafters to hone and develop this specialist technique. Her papermaking approach includes inspiration from the natural and the built environment as well as the experimental use of found materials.

Mandy’s practice has developed by combining both the Japanese and the Western papermaking methods of sheet formation. By using traditional bast fibres and leaf fibres with complex pigmentation methods she creates experimental patterns and layers with the fibres that push the boundaries of what traditionally would be used in the papermaking process.
The experimental nature of her practice has allowed her to work with artists and institutions to produce bespoke pieces and collaborative installations. She also makes handmade paper sheets for her own defined practice as well as for bespoke briefs.
