Caitlin Maxwell Hughan is a dyer and designer working with yarn to develop farm-to-fibre relationships.
Caitlin’s design practice involves hand-dyeing yarn to create pattern. Also known as space dye or ikat depending on the technique deployed, the resulting dyed yarns evolve into repeat patterns and colour combinations.
Caitlin’s methodology uses deadstock yarn, minimal dye, and incorporates colour from natural, often plant-based sources.
Caitlin is also researching and developing relationships between farmers, manufacturers and designers to break down silos and transfer knowledge and skills between industries.
Caitlin graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2023 and is a recipient of Cockpit’s Grant-Turnstone Award in 2024.
