Every month, we bring you an update about what’s new and exciting at Cockpit. From stunning products to intriguing projects to inspiring brand partnerships, here are the latest developments from our makers.
The countdown is on for London Craft Week...
In just over a week, our ambitious selling exhibition — also titled The Cockpit Edit — will open at Cockpit Bloomsbury from 13-16 May as part of London Craft Week. Featuring 185 unique pieces by over 90 Cockpit makers, you won’t want to miss this world-class exhibition.
We’ll be sharing a round-up of our top events for London Craft Week in next week’s newsletter, as well as announcing the full list of participating makers. In the meantime, be sure to register for your free exhibition ticket or book onto one of our exciting demonstrations here.
As a sneak preview, here are three makers who have created brand-new work for the exhibition.
Tania Clarke Hall's 'Making the Cut' Brooch
Tania Clarke Hall is renowned for her bold, playful yet sophisticated approach to working with leather that breaks conventions. For The Cockpit Edit, Tania presents her newly designed ‘Making the Cut’ brooch, created specially for London Craft Week.
The brooch is crafted entirely from leather offcuts and recycled silver. Constructed from playfully curved elements with brightly coloured edges, this multi-dimensional new piece is striking yet light weight.

Sarah Herriot's new bronze sculptures
Award-winning Cockpit jewellery designer Sarah Herriot will introduce two new sculptures — ‘Untitled’ pictured here and ‘Revert’ — during the London Craft Week exhibition. This bronze sculpture mounted on a granite plinth was first hand-carved in wax, then cast into bronze using the lost wax casting method, and carefully crafted.
‘Revert’ suggests a return or a coming back to an original state, inviting viewers to think about transformation, time, and the idea of returning to where things began.

Ama Adansi-Pipim's 'When Worlds Collide' vessels
Ceramicist Ama Adansi-Pipim will launch a subtle and sophisticated new collection of vessels during London Craft Week. ‘When Worlds Collide’ creatively reimagines Asante ceremonial offering bowls, engaging with the themes of celebration and connection, while a new wall installation will highlight the significance of scarification as a marker of identity and as a vital thread in the fabric of Asante society, celebrating the enduring power of tradition and the profound ways in which the body becomes a canvas for cultural expression.

A monumental artwork by Helen Johannessen has been unveiled in Mayfair
Cockpit ceramicist Helen Johannessen has been working with Swedish illustrator Petra Boner on the main artwork for the newly refurbished Montcalm hotel in Mayfair. After three years of discussions, fabrication, casting, carving, refining and finally framing, the artwork has finally been installed in its permanent home!
The hand carved piece — which measures 2.5 x 1.5 metres and is the largest piece Helen has ever made in plaster — hangs suspended from the ceiling in the reception area, providing an inspiring welcome for guests.
Not only will Helen’s work be available to purchase in our Craft Week exhibition, she will also be doing a porcelain casting demonstration in her studio on Wednesday 14 May at 12.30 pm. Book your space here.

Giuseppe Savoca to feature in the World Crafts Council's global showcase
Giuseppe Savoca has been selected to take part in a global craft study led by the World Crafts Council, highlighting innovative makers shaping the future of craft worldwide.
Giuseppe’s work is recognised for its material sensitivity, sculptural precision, and contribution to contemporary craft discourse. This project celebrates the evolving language of craft — where tradition meets experimentation — and we’re proud to see Giuseppe’s practice included in this important conversation.
Learn more about his practice here — and don’t miss his work for sale in The Cockpit Edit during Craft Week!

An exciting collaboration between Jacky Oliver and Jessie White
Metal sculptor Jacky Oliver and leather worker Jessie White have teamed up to create this stunning collaborative sculpture that brings together the dynamic, fluid lines of Jacky’s forms with the refined craftsmanship of Jessie’s leatherwork. The intertwining metal loops appear to move in space, suggesting motion and continuity, while the hand-stitched leather base introduces warmth and material complexity to the work.
The piece will be on view at Jessie’s studio in Deptford during Summer Open Studios, plus both makers will have work available in our Craft Week exhibition.

Cockpit in print — Alma Sophia and Joy B-C featured in two new publications
We’re excited to share that not one but two (!) Cockpit makers have had their work featured in new coffee table books!
Alma Sophia has two pieces in New Earrings by Nicolas Estrada, a showcase of 198 jewellers from around the world. The book highlights Alma’s one-of-a-kind ‘Dark Side of the Moon Earrings’ and her limited-edition ‘Equinox Earrings’.
Joy B-C‘s ‘Precious Tear Ring’ has been included in style icon Motofumi ‘Poggy’ Kogi’s new book. Poggy Style: Dressing for Work and Play is the modern man’s guide to getting dressed, providing a refreshing perspective on men’s dressing.
