We are extremely grateful to The Foyle Foundation which is providing a generous grant towards the redevelopment of our Deptford studios.
Our vision is to refurbish and extend Cockpit Deptford to create a thriving hub for craft, providing additional affordable artist studios and opening up spaces for community workshops, events and training – and The Foyle Foundation is helping us to make that vision a reality.
The project will optimise currently run-down and inefficiently configured space for the benefit of local people and grow studio provision in Deptford from 60 to 80 independent creative practitioners. It will deliver expanded specialist, affordable studios for makers, shared equipment hubs, and a new flexible education space to meet growing demand for events and practical workshops.
By enabling us to bring into operation unused area of our building, The Foyle Foundation’s grant will contribute to Cockpit’s ongoing sustainability. Making the building and activities more open, welcoming and accessible, will transform Cockpit from a relatively self-contained organisation into a vibrant civic hub, securing the future of craft in Deptford.
Please visit us during our Summer Festival and Open Studios weekend in Deptford where you’ll be able to find out more about our plans and talk to us about them.
In the meantime, a big thank you to The Foyle Foundation for supporting this development activity which will enable us to meet our artistic mission better by increasing studio capacity, creating for-purpose studio spaces, and delivering improved public spaces for audiences to enjoy craft.
