Designer Craig Yamey features in the latest of The British Library’s Meet the Maker blog.

Craig Yamey combines his love of Japanese art, calligraphy, street art and tattoo iconography to fashion a unique style of illustration. Floating clouds, mountains and botanical prints combine to create a unique world of homewares.

Craig’s clients include Paperchase, Museum of the Home and The Southbank Centre, alongside being the creator of stunning new designs for The British Library Shop’s Alice in Wonderland range.

Craig shares his aims with this special project: ‘My aim was to capture the beautiful etched lines of his [Tenniel’s] artwork from the late 1800s by incorporating ornate Victorian frames and etched illustrations, but adding a contemporary twist with letterpress typography. I was very excited as the brief allowed me to incorporate gold foiling which informed a lot of the design process. My initial mood board included Victorian playing cards, printed letterpress and antique book covers.’
