Fresh new work for the festive season

To celebrate the launch of the brand-new Cockpit Deptford and the second weekend of Winter Open Studios, we’re showcasing new products from eight makers whose studios you can visit and whose work will be available for purchase during Deptford Open Studios (from 1-3 December).

Anja Lubach 

Anja Lubach’s work explores the smooth, translucent and pure material properties of porcelain. Lubach alters the symmetry of her wheel thrown vessels by imprinting them with intricate details taken from religious figurines and from body parts to beautifully haunting effect. Her new work for open studios includes a flared black bowl and a pair of spheres with sinuous twisted interiors.

Rebecca George 

Rebecca George is the founder of accessories brand OFFCUTT where she utilises traditional techniques and works with locally sourced end-of-the-line leather remnants to create an array of panelled shapes and colour-ways. OFFCUTT’s new Lucent Mud & Liquid Mass edition focuses on the distortion and beauty within polarity.

Kethi Copeland 

Handcrafted at every stage, from on-site drawing to silk-screen printing, Kethi Copeland’s original prints capture the diversity of London’s architecture. This new decoration is inspired by the maritime history of the local area of Greenwich and features the iconic Cutty Sark Ship, with a design from an original drawing that is hand printed in black ink onto a wooden bauble.

Ellen Mae Williams 

These naturally dyed and hand-painted textile works and linen paintings from Ellen Mae Williams make a unique gift for art lovers and design enthusiasts alike. Taking inspiration from the landscape and the changing seasons, her works are an abstract interpretation of the natural world, combining natural dyeing with mark-making.

Darren Appiagyei 

At Inthegrain, Darren Appiagyei creates bespoke pieces with a wood orientated theme. Every piece is created with an underlying story based on Appiagyei’s personal experience. In his series of pyrographic vessels, Appiagyei uses a mark burning technique to very subtly expose the transition of tone in the grain of locally sourced wood to enhance its natural elements.

Judith Peterhoff 

Judith Peterhoff’s work explores what it means to be human — a fleeting moment, a touch — celebrating our individual quirks as human beings. Effortlessly elegant with a focus on materials, wearability and ease, her intricate and tactile jewellery is made from recycled gold and silver, embellished with gemstones and diamonds.

Sian Zeng 

Sian Zeng’s wallpaper is known for its hand-painted illustrations and modern fusion of Oriental and Western aesthetic. Each wallpaper created by the studio is reproduced from large-scale original artwork and printed in a way that preserves every one of Zeng’s delicate brushstrokes.

Helen Brough 

An acclaimed artist whose work is found in numerous private and corporate collections and museums worldwide, Helen Brough is presenting new work at Open Studios.
