‘Lunar Altar : After Kircher’

This gilded, oak triptych celebrates the moon and incorporates the artist’s interpretation of the famous 17th century engraving of the ‘Turris Babel’ (Tower of Babel) by Athanasius Kircher. In the central panel is a depiction of ‘Luna’ the goddess of the moon with her golden crescent. Apollo, the god of light, is represented by the symbol pierced into the right panel whilst the Apollo Moon mission is represented by the symbol pierced into the left .
