Weaving 3D Structures on Handlooms is an advanced level workshop with Cockpit maker Charlotte Grierson held in the Learning Space at Cockpit in Deptford. Over two days you will explore possibilities and techniques for creating 3-dimensional textiles.
You will weave samples on pre-warped looms which you will take home together with the detailed handouts of the teaching and the warps on offer, and your own notes.
Charlotte has been teaching for over 15 years and has spent much of her own work experimenting with a variety of 3 dimensional structures. She encourages students to experiment and explore ideas whilst providing the support needed to foster creativity.
In this workshop, you will:
-
Learn how to create 3D effects using techniques such as differential shrinkage, high twist yarns, double and triple cloths, and piqués.
-
Discuss yarn qualities, characteristics, and considerations for working with specific materials.
-
Work on pre-set handlooms with various warps to experiment with structures and techniques.
-
Explore the effects of different yarns in the weft to achieve unique 3D designs.
-
Evaluate your woven samples to understand results and identify opportunities for future projects.
