Specifically Pocket Cloth is a 2-day workshop taught by Charlotte Grierson and held at Cockpit in Deptford. This workshop is suitable for intermediate level weavers, and aims to build your understanding and confidence so that you can go on to use pocket cloth in may ways in your weaving.
Pocket cloth is just one type of doublecloth which creates possibilities for grids of pure and blended colour, as well as different colours and on opposite sides of the cloth. In this workshop we will take an in depth look at the set up and planning needed to achieve a variety of effects, and you will be able to weave your own samples.
This workshop is aimed at effects that are achievable on 8 shafts, but with the addition of one 16 shaft option.
During the workshop you will cover topics such as:
- understanding threadings and liftings
- colour and weave effects
- textural effects
- ratios
- using different materials
- possibilities and limitations
- 16 shaft threading
Working on looms already set up with a range of warps in different materials and threadings, you will be able to weave samples to try many possibilities with pocket cloth. You will have supporting handouts to help and develop your understanding. You will build your confidence to explore and experiment with a wide range of wefts.
To conclude the workshop we will evaluate the range of samples you have woven and identify the characteristics and opportunities of pocket cloth and what things you need to consider.
You will take home:
- handouts
- your own notes and paperwork
- samples you have woven.
Charlotte Grierson has an MA in Textiles and is a handweaver with over 20 years of experience. She designs and makes her own functional and art-led work from her studio at Cockpit in Deptford. She also has over 14 years of experience of teaching practical weaving classes.
All materials are included.
