Event description

Join us on Saturday 28th May as we kick off our Jubilee celebrations with a series of free family workshops with Cockpit Deptford maker, Yolande Mutale.

Local families are welcome to sign up for a free 45-minute creative workshop where you’ll produce your own stamps and help build a ten-metre-long unfolding story of our community drawing inspiration from Deptford landmarks and your favourite neighbourhood places. Book now as places are limited (16 years and under).

Craft sessions will take place at 11am, 12pm and 1pm on Saturday 28th May 2022.

Come along to find out more about the Summer Festival in Deptford (17th-19th June) – families can attend for free and there will be a series of live workshops where children can create their own bunting flag to add to a large communal installation. Find out more about Cockpit’s Let’s Create – Jubilee Fund project here.

A decision on Cockpit’s planning application is expected soon and members of our consultation team will be available to talk you through the proposals on Saturday 28th May. A sensitive renovation will see the Deptford building open its doors to the local community with a courtyard garden accessed from Creekside and small, public cafe. New flexible space on the ground floor will allow makers to host workshops, exhibitions and craft events. Additionally new studios in the rear yard and an internal reconfiguration will improve facilities for the makers’ community and create space for 20 new businesses.

Throughout the summer, we’ll be developing our ideas for a public art strategy which will reimagine the Love Over Gold mural along our Creekside wall, which dates back nearly fifty years, and help ensure that its message weaves into our future and reflects our desire to welcome the Deptford community into our new spaces.
