Weighing Yesterday’s Rain is a sound art installation and improvised participatory workshop created by local artist Prajvi Mandhani.
The sonic performance uses contact mics and collected rain water in glass vessels. The rain water is altered, modulated, tampered with or disturbed to produce soundscapes and textured audio that reflects the performers alteration of the water.
The rainwater is collected by the artist from her home as well as from on-site at Cockpit Deptford. Participants are encouraged to bring their own collected rainwater if they have the means to collect it.
As part of this interactive workshop, the artist will speak about their work and talk the audience through the processes of creating and techniques when performing with the installation. The piece will then be performed alongside sound artist and event curator Xuân Sinden, who will bring effects pedals and synthesizers to modulate the audio produced by the sound installation.
Toward the end of the exhibition the audience will be invited to perform collectively, playing with the installation, with the artists support and guidance, completing the participatory collaborative sound piece.
We invite people from all backgrounds and all levels of artistic knowledge or creative experience to welcome a evening of collaborative improvised performances.
