Craft is often celebrated for its beauty, meticulous technique and intricate complexity. However, beyond these aesthetic and technical achievements, what frequently drives and inspires makers are deeply rooted causes and meaningful concerns that reflect their values, beliefs and the world around them.
Lewis Dalton Gilbert, independent curator and creative director of A Vibe Called Tech, speaks to three makers exhibiting at Collect about their experiences using their practice as a platform, including wood artist Darren Appiagyei who will discuss using his practice to honour his late mother who died from fibroids, raising awareness of the condition.
