He went on to spend 6 years at Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons in Oxford with Raymond Blanc before founding Michelin starred restaurant Pied à Terre, in 1991. L’Autre Pied followed in 2007 and acclaimed pop-up Pieds Nus, in 2013.

He has enjoyed many TV guest and presenter roles including BBC MasterChef: The Professionals, Out of the Frying Pan and The Restaurant – alongside his former mentor Raymond Blanc – as well as This Morning, The Wright Stuff, Inside out London. David has also been a regular contributor to BBC Radio with Nigel Barden and collaborated with Nick Snaith on Magic Radio for Foodie Friday.

Keen to share his expertise and learning, David was thrilled to be invited to sit on the board of Trustees for Cockpit and is now in his fifth year working with us. A consultant for several other restaurants, David also acts as a mentor for young chefs who have passed through his kitchens.

“I am delighted to become a Cockpit Trustee. I have been a patron of the crafts for many years, regularly attending Cockpit Open Studios and commissioning and purchasing works, in particular furniture for our restaurants.”
