London-based artist Miae Kim, originating from South Korea, spent much of her adult life in Los Angeles working as an animator and visual effects artist before discovering her passion for ceramic art. Her background in film and visual storytelling continues to influence her approach to form, surface, and narrative.
Her practice spans two interconnected bodies of work: one inspired by whales, and the other blending Korean motifs, Hangul, and contemporary Western design. Whales—graceful yet strong—inform her artistic practice and reflect themes of movement, resilience, and continuity. Alongside this, her work explores cultural identity and the blending of traditional and contemporary design, bridging Eastern and Western aesthetics.
Her work has been exhibited at several international events, including the British Ceramics Biennial (Fresh 2025), and she will be exhibiting at Ceramic Art London 2026. She is a selected member of the Crafts Potters Association.
