Gabriel Scott’s Leathercraft Workshop with Candice Lau

By Studio Candice Lau

Join Gabriel Scott at their Mayfair showroom to learn the traditional art of leatherwork with maker Candice Lau. Use the method of saddle stitching to make your own small leather card holder from vegan leather. The workshop celebrates Gabriel Scott’s Bardot furniture series. The epitome of chic, with distinct legs and a beautiful silhouette, the Bardot furniture series is aptly named after the French style icon. It combines black steel with distinct brass, copper or nickel hardware, with hand-stitched fine French pebbled vegan leather – available in nude pink, slate grey, black or navy blue options from Ultrafabrics. Ultrafabrics has always dedicated itself to producing high-end, animal-free fabric for all types of applications, from residential furniture to commercial surfaces. Leather craftswoman Candice Lau has been working with leather for the last 10 years. Her work, ranging from bags and accessories using traditional leatherworking methods to experimental sculptures, has won her a Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust award, shortlisted maker of the year by the Heritage Craft Association, and the Worshipful Company of Leathersellers award. She was also commissioned to publish the Leathercraft Handbook in 2020 with Octopus Publishing. Her designs are colourful, fun yet elegant and are a mark of her graphic design background.
